  4. Why you shouldn't get your stock picks from your fitness trainer

Unemployment is high... the economy is bad...talking babies are on TV telling you to trade stocks... and your fitness instructor is telling you which ones to buy and sell. A humorous take on a serious subject about why trying to do that last lunge does not work if you are trying to make that last dollar.

  9. Employing Our Neighbors and Improving Our Planet---Products with Purpose

We all carry bags: book bags, grocery bags, travel bags, etc. But what if the bags we carried had a greater purpose? What if they bettered our planet and employed our next-door neighbors? They can, meet Satchbags. Constructed from upcycled billboard vinyl, Satchbags are weather proof and incredibly durable line of bags, including totes, clutches, lunchboxes and travel duffles. But what's even better, Satchbags are hand-made by at-home seamstresses, providing jobs for our out of work neighbors. Cool environmentally friendly bags made by loving hands, now that’s a product with a purpose.

Providing products to consumers has long been the…

  11. Curling in the South, or "Y'all do WHAT on Friday nights?"

Curling is a Winter Olympic sport most typically associated with Canada and northern states. It's a surprise to many, then, to learn that the Triangle actually has a very active and growing curling club.

If you've ever seen this mysterious sport on TV and have been dying to find out more about it (and admit it, you are), now is your chance. I'll cover the basics (like how heavy those stones really are) and tell you how you can even try it for yourself.

The Triangle's coolest secret won't be a secret much longer.

  12. How to change the world in 3 steps...Maybe 4.

How do small ideas affect change? Take TOMS Shoes. A guy, Polo training in Argentina, and children with no shoes. Boing! Blake has put shoes on thousands of kids, reducing illness and putting kids back to school. In 3 steps...maybe 4.

I'm Matt Murray, founder of Satchbags. Satchbags (satchel + Bag) is a Chapel Hill, NC based company that takes vinyl billboards before they hit landfills and makes different types of cool bags. Tote bags, duffles, and messenger bags.

We are changing our world by 1. Identifying a problem-in this case the plastic bag monster choking landfills and oceans. 2.…

  14. Trust the Intern

Paul Jones, a recent college graduate, had five internships in school. He can enter data like no other, serve refreshments in the most formal corporate setting and has even mastered the collated copy. But when it came to writing his resume, these experiences did not equal “work experience” for any entry-level job. Luckily some employers put their trust in Paul and gave him responsibilities that would prepare him for a future career. Learn how to be a better employer, create a better internship experience and lay the groundwork to help your company grow by simply trusting the intern.

  15. 2 Powerful Strategies for Marketing to Hard-to-Reach Prospects for Little or No Cost

Reach hard-to-reach prospects with these two marketing strategies. I would like to help small and mid-size businesses attract the right people. I have helped companies use these strategies to reach their exact target prospects and create relationships with them naturally. Fortunately, these ideas can also be implemented with little or no capital - and can even make you money in the process (even before you sell to your prospects).

  17. Focus Groups Are Dead: Social Media is the New Market Research Tool

Big change initiatives in corporate America most often come from within. Focus groups were contrived “market research” set up to justify changes from within. The social media sphere, where the consumers live – genuinely – should be guiding those big change initiatives. I’ll show how to use social media to actually listen and to discover a treasure trove of reviews and sincere opinions, and how to use those for an effective marketing strategy.

  20. Ending the Sales Weazel-Marketing Weenie War

Can't we all get along? There's a long and storied history of finger pointing between sales and marketing departments on why there's "no traction" in the marketplace. Would anyone really use the word "traction" if it wasn't a business cliche?

There are practical ways to solve the problem if both sides "get" where the other is coming from. It's death and destruction if they don't.
